Find your private IP address on Wi-Fi
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the information button next to the Wi-Fi network you are using.
- Under IPv4 Address, read the value beside IP Address.
This is a local address used inside your Wi-Fi network. Addresses such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, and 172.16.x.x–172.31.x.x are private ranges and are not the address websites see.
Find your public IP address
Your public IP is assigned by the network that connects you to the internet. Open our IP checker and the current public address appears at the top of the page together with connection details such as ISP and approximate location.
If you switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, the public IP can change because the phone is now using your mobile carrier instead of the Wi-Fi network.
What if your iPhone shows IPv6?
Many networks provide both IPv4 and IPv6. That is normal. A website may connect over either protocol depending on the network and browser. If you use a VPN, test both protocols because a VPN that protects IPv4 but leaves IPv6 outside the tunnel can reveal a different network path.
Why can the location be wrong?
IP geolocation is approximate. Your displayed city or region can differ from your physical location because an ISP or mobile carrier routes traffic through another area, because you are behind carrier-grade NAT, because a VPN or privacy relay is active, or because a geolocation database has not yet caught up with an address reassignment.
VPNs and iCloud Private Relay
A VPN normally replaces the public IP websites see with the VPN server's address while it is connected. Apple's iCloud Private Relay can also obscure the IP used by supported Safari traffic. Does my iPhone have more than one IP address?
It can. Your iPhone can have a private Wi-Fi address, a public address for the internet connection, and IPv6 addresses. Switching between Wi-Fi, cellular data, VPNs, and privacy relays can also change what remote websites see.
Can a public IP reveal my exact home address?
No. IP geolocation can often estimate a country, region, or city, but it does not reveal a precise street address by itself.
Why did my public IP change?
Most consumer connections use dynamically assigned addresses. Your IP can change after reconnecting, switching networks, using a VPN, or when your ISP or mobile carrier reallocates addresses.
